SALARY                 $55,000+ DOQ
 

JOB SUMMARY
Assists the Public Works Director in directing, organizing, planning, and supervising daily operations of all public works employees and activities; reports all activities to the Public Works Director to ensure all tasks and functions are completed in accordance with the City mission.  Work schedule is typically Monday through Friday, 8 am-5 pm, but may vary with occasional evening or weekend hours required, and may be subject to emergency call-outs.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Direct, plan, and organize staff in the operation and maintenance of the water and sewer system, stormwater systems, streets, and City facilities
  • Supervise daily operations of all public works employees
  • Assist with training to ensure that Public Works employees are competent as system operators
  • Maintain state-required records related to the water and sewer systems in compliance with state and federal agencies
  • Maintain state-required licenses
  • Provide assistance with the preparation of the annual budget
  • Responsible for maintaining an adequate inventory of a variety of parts and supplies to ensure that all systems can be maintained in a timely manner
  • Responsible for the repair and maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and buildings
  • Coordinate with contractors on various projects
  • Responsible for purchasing supplies, chemicals, and parts for daily operations and for overseeing purchases being made by Public Works employees
  • Enforce city policies and procedures and utilize disciplinary processes when necessary
  • Attend all meetings involving public works operations
  • Conduct safety meetings 
  • Support other departments as needed

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License
  • Minimum Class “C” Water License and Class “C” Waste Water Treatment
  • Must be familiar with the operation of all heavy equipment operated by the City of Glen Rose
  • Ability to obtain an advanced water/sewer license
       

ABILITIES REQUIRED
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.  Ability to: communicate in the English language; carry items weighing up to 100 pounds and lift to a height of 3-5 feet; walk, stand, and kneel for extended periods of time; push and pull up to 200 pounds; perform heavy manual labor in conditions of extreme heat and cold, and in the presence of extreme noise, dust, filth and possible mechanical or chemical hazards, as well as traffic hazards; operate equipment including backhoe, dump truck, and other heavy construction equipment; drive in a safe and responsible manner; obtain, and maintain TCEQ required licenses for water, and wastewater operations; follow oral and written instruction; cross-train in other departments, as needed; develop and maintain a positive working relationship with fellow employees and the general public.
